Can I fix my credit myself

Credit repair itself is not illegal but most credit repair practices are illegal.  For instance, if your credit repair company disputes an item that is clearly yours and they tell the credit bureau that it is not mine then that information is false, and you are then guilty of fraud.  If the credit bureau removes that item and improves your credit to the extent that you can now use your credit to make purchases and you actually buy something with your new credit you have just committed bank fraud.  Normally banks don’t prosecute this type of bank fraud unless you default on a large purchase.  But in the past, we have had to help our clients stay out of jail because this type of bank fraud carries a minimum 2 year sentence.
