Business Credit

What do I need to start building business credit?

1. Proper paperwork filed for your business entity

2. Business Address:

If you work from home then get a business mailing address from an office suites location like an HQ or Regis Office Suites. UPS stores are flagged in most lenders systems and do not work anymore. But remember, its ok to work from home. My business is home based and I did just fine building business credit.

3. Business phone line listed in directory assistance.

This has become a big issue lately with lenders. If you have an office then your perfectly fine.
If you work from home, get an extra line or convert your present line to a business line.
If you use an office suites for your address, add phone answering and ask them to list your line in directory assistance.
They will probably charge you a small monthly fee or a one-time set up charge. The issue here is that
some of the lenders want you to call from the number listed on your application as an additional security check.
Dell is big on this. If you use an office suites address, you can still use your business line that is located in your home,
just have your phone company remove your address from the directory assistance listing , this way it will still show your
company name and phone on the caller ID. Another option is VOIP but some have experienced delays in getting it listed with
directory assistance.

4. DUNS Number

You can call and ask to be listed with DNB or click here for a free number – might take 30 days.
You can get a free number over the phone by stating that you are going to bid for government
contracts by calling this number: 866 705 5711 (Central Contractor Registration – CCR).
Another option is to obtain credit from some of the Starter Accounts listed below and your DUNS number and report
will “self create”. This is actually the best way but may take just a bit longer.
REMEMBER: If you are a real business with real customers and obtain real credit from the starter accounts – you will
get a self-created file! Most Experian and Equifax files are self-created.
It is not recommended that you pay for any type of Credit Builder from DNB. It is a waste of money.

5. Once you receive your Duns number you can apply for your eupdate access. Just go to www.dnb.com/eupdate and
enroll. CAUTION: You should only check your file with DNB once every 2 weeks. If you check it a lot, it will throw up
a flag with DNB.
